Have a Shih Tzu! They can have allergies and grow long hair so need grooming about once a month/month and a half but otherwise a low maintenance and enjoyable breed. Doesn’t shed. Barely barks. Crate trained so hangs out there while I’m at work. Small so perfect for my apartment/living in the city. My dog has a hilarious personality and is really sweet and fun to be around. I had a cocker spaniel growing up and loved him too. He was my dad’s dog that some girlfriend gave him in college and my dad loved that pupper to death. If my dad could keep him alive for years lol you got this! PRO TIP: just don’t get a puppy unless you have tons of time to train.
How friendly are Shih Tzus? I am hoping for a friendly, intelligent dog. My ideal dog would have been a golden retriever, but no way to keep one in an small apartment...
Incredibly friendly!!! They were bread to be companions (and foot-warmers in imperial China -funny enough mine loves to sit on my feet). Expect tons of love and tail wagging when you walk through the door, cuddles and for them to want to play with you (although they can chill if you’re not in the mood). They’re known as great family dogs and do really well with children. Get along with other dogs (although my dog in particular isn’t into high energy puppies. He’s 6 and is like no thanks), mine even likes cats. They’re smart and learn quickly, however they’re known for being very independent which can translate into a stubborn streak at times. If my dog doesn’t feel like doing something, he won’t. He will acknowledge he hears me and ignores me. Lol Only sometimes though. 98% of the time he’s obedient. I’d definitely get one again. ☺️
Dogs are super dirty.
Lol not if you clean/groom them.
I mean shedding, slobbering, tracking dirt inside, vomiting grass they ate outside, mensturation for female dogs, chewing everything, bringing bugs/dead animals in from outside, not to mention potentially going potty inside. Regardless of how much you clean, the amount of mess they generate stays the same. Source: live with 3 dogs
Greyhounds are said to be good for working people. Love to sleep through the day, need attention/exercise when you come home. You need a dog breed that's emotionally stable and independent to be at home, and low energy level so they don't destroy your house in your absence
Who wants all the extra work in life? I am thinking so hard about having kids, because of all the work. I would not put so much effort for a pet
I think it depends... some people (including me) value the companionship that a pet provides over the extra work.
Yeah agreed, might be worth for some people. I would rather have my freedom of not worrying about pets when I have to go anywhere.
Nothing? Going to walk the dog before work, during lunch, after work, before sleep.
The dog can leetcode in it's free time.
