As title suggests, you have accepted an offer with a start date, how much TC difference from another offer would you need to justify reneging? 10k, 20k, 50k, 100k, 200k? Is there a certain difference that makes it a no brainer?
It's the percentage that matters not absolutes. For me at least 20%+
That makes sense - if you had accepted a 200k offer than you would renege for 240k... which is 40k etc. just trying to gauge folks and amounts.
Same city? Same location? Same commute? Same base? Same bonus? Same RSU? Same benefits? Same title and level? Same stack? Same field? Same company growth? Too many variables. But at 50k plus I'm most likely going with the higher TC
Good points. TC includes all those components i.e RSU, bonus, base etc. for simplicity sack the numbers are “total” increases from one all inclusive to another all inclusive. I can see how some folks may weigh higher base more than equity etc so discount those factors, just consider raw increase as a whole
You kidding? People around here would sell their mother for 50k more TC
Lol.
For a particular level, the TC difference never reaches around 200k between companies. i.e to say, one company isn't going to offer 160k TC and another 360k TC for a new grad role. Help me understand if what you mean by 200k is different
Oh I meant generally speaking and the 200k difference would be more for senior seasoned folks e.g you could get the jitters and not do well for one company (down level etc) and do superb for another etc or someone could have from non-FAANG and then a FAANG comes through etc
I see, the senior the level, the more complex the no of ways TC can vary
I guess to the 5 that have voted they wouldn’t renege for any amount of TC difference, can you share your motivations? Is it because of “my word is my bond” bs? 200k difference is pretty significant unless u are already above 1M TC etc
Renege diplomatically and nicely. Politely say it’s due to Family reasons

There’s a cost associated with reneging, with the main one being that there’s a small risk the company will never hire you again so you need to make sure that it’s what you want.
And my assumption is that folks are factoring that in to the amount of TC boost they are getting. That said, it would be good for folks to share data points on reneging and joining that specific company at a future date. Anyone done it successfully?
