How much do people usually pay for Apartment rent based on their TC?

I live in Austin, my TC is 126k and I just don't plan on buying a house for a few years. I pay 2.5k/month for my apartment. It's really nice and new. I'm happy with it. But I've had several people tell me I'm paying too much. On the flip side I see people around my apartment complex and they don't seem to be making a lot of money either. So I'm wondering, what do people usually pay for rent based on their TC? Edit: 2bedroom 2 bathroom apt.

Don’t buy now please Wait for recession plz

Amazon HarryDockr Nov 12, 2019

Yeah initially I was worried about it too. But I am not seeing any concrete data anywhere, except for people mentioning it casually on Blind. I hope I am not wrong. I just don’t wanna extend my lease and wait for one more year.

120k , $750. I also think you’re paying too much, I agree with the people that told you that.

Where do you live? Is it a studio?

State Farm sweeeeee Nov 12, 2019

Two bedroom. But for a studio or one bedroom, even the luxury ones are like 1.2-1.8k. Cheaper studios/1BR are around 1k

Most of the people in your apartment are probably living paycheck to paycheck

This is what I suspect too

My mortgage payment (principal + interest + insurance + tax) is $2800. Wife + me combined TC is $350k. Probably will upgrade the house in a year or two.

TC with spouse 377k we pay 2.5k in rent and are buying a condo and will be paying 3.5k for mortgage, utilities, HOA and insurance. I agree, you’re paying too much, either downgrade or get a roomie/SO lol

You are paying too much. Remember rent is reoccurring payment,so it adds up quickly. If you can get something with $2k, you are saving $6k a year. You can travel the world with this. You should spend less than 25% of your AFTER tax income on rent

IBM SevenFifty OP Nov 12, 2019

Yeah I'm looking for these numbers: 25% after tax
