Got a job in Palo Alto. I’ve lived in SF before and loved it so I want to live there again; just want to get peoples thought on commuting by Caltrain.
U need a 4th option: it sucks, go back to uber in SF or find another job in SF
Honestly I have an offer for a job in SF and I would take it, but this job has like 25% higher TC, on top of being a much cooler startup.
Lived in Palo Alto. It's good! Try it!
How old were you? I’m 22 and I’ve just been told Palo Alto is boring for folk my age. I guess that might not be totally accurate since the university is right there though.
Yes university ave is good area. Downtown has lots of good restaurants. Hiking trails around stanford area are filled with people in evening. Mountain view downtown is commutable too. Has great restaurants again. You can go to SF on weekends for any shows/events/any fun u might be interested in. Don't know about u but i dont feel like doing much other than hangout in restaurants with frnds on week day evenings. I wudnt recommend commute to SF everyday. It's too much hassle for no benefit. To answer ur ques: I was 25 when in bay area.
south bay blows
Don't live in shithole. Move.
If you’re 22 and want a social life, you have to live in SF. There simply is no choice
I’ve heard this. But then again, I’m worried taking ~2 hours out of my day everyday is going to make it hard to go out and do anything on weekdays.
You’ll be fine. Try to be productive or at least do something useful on the train. If you think you can live in South Bay and “commute to go out” on weekends, it won’t work, I can tell you right away
Live in Mission Bay and take Caltrain (assuming <10 minute walk on either end).
The social life gap between Palo Alto and SF isn’t as wide as the gap between SF and a city like LA or NY
OP you're working for Uber PAO or new company? Re: Caltrain ive never taken it regularly but always find it relaxing when I take it though usually it's midday. If you work AND live near CT it should be great.
I’m a new grad, interned at uber SF, received an offer from robinhood in menlo park/Palo Alto.
Palo Alto is great. Expensive but ideal in so many ways. I liked it in my 20s TBH. But if you're a straight male the gender ratios just sucked. That may have changed. But SF will still be a healthier balance. Same is true if you're a woman. Too many dudes ruins the party for everyone literally :)
Lol. Live / work in SF. With 2 kids. Best of all world's (except weather)
Is the weather in SF like Seattle? About to move there soon :)
I think on average it's better. Just not as delightful as South Bay.
