How much travel is required for a tech trainer at FANG?

I wish to switch from development to training, currently working as a level 5 developer for Amazon in India. To start working as an aws L6 technical trainer seems to be a natural choice however I can try to pursue a similar roles at Microsoft (Azure), Google (cloud) or at a big Tech company ( startup is not a cup of tea for me for now). I have heard that these kind of roles involve lots of travel maybe 50% or up to 70% as well, would love to hear from people in big tech companies who are already in such roles. I would like to keep the travel part to the minimum for now. So how much do you usually travel for work (doesn't matter if you are working in India or elsewhere)? How long is a typical travel assignment for? one week? one month? YOE 8 Thanks in advance.

Go take a class and ask the trainer. They love talking about the life since they are always hiring.

Minimum 50%. What they state usually is from 50-70%. I might switch my SA role to Azure Trainer in next week.

Thanks for replying, assuming that trainers travel for delivering classroom training or attending some event, what is the typical duration of the travel? I mean how many days or weeks do they stay away from their home location for a training assignment?

I have done trainings in past. You would hardly travel for a day or two. In most cases I see it to be a week. I will hate anything longer than a week. I am talking in context of training format at MS.

I also want to switch to technical trainer role. Looking for mentors.

Find an internal open position, usually gcp requires many trainers. Maybe do a certification. Someone who has already transitioned from tech to trainer role within Google could be a good mentor for you.

If you’re wanting to be a Azure Technical Trainer (ATT) - get your MCT first and go ahead and prep for a tough / popular class AZ300/301 : AZ204 (beta) : DP200/DP201 they’re hiring, I have a friend on the team and know of a role in NY. Travel is 80+ up until last week. He says it’s chaos but enjoys it. Sticking as CSA for now.
