It changed based on stage of career. Started off every year or two, now every 4 or so years. You don't want a reputation as a job hopper.
Why? Do you think staying longer helped increase your comp faster?
I think the focus being purely on "increasing comp" is narrow-minded, however in my case, I was happy with the overall pay rises over many of those years, for the market I was in.
