I was java developer, worked as java developer for 10 years ... But now I realize it really doesn't matter.
We literally don’t care.
unless you work on the compiler or some other niche specialty that requires 10+ years of expertise (e.g. ultra-low latency)
Most of the college students I've interviewed have been using Java at school. And half the rest are using it on their own because they have Android phones. I've sure some will do Java at ms (because Android), but not all (because not Android).
They hire software engineers, not java developers.
Recruiter asked me if I'd be interested in coding in c#. I said yes and then she never got back.
Don’t market yourself or think about yourself as a java dev. You are a software engineer who can use whatever tools/languages are needed to solve the problem.
