How relaxed is the work at FB and Google?
Got offers from both, but not sure which one to choose. Don’t want to regularly work 50hrs/week. FB TC is higher than Googles, but would Google have better WLB? Current TC: 200k L5 FB: 280k Google: 260k
I’d go google given 20k diff in comp.cetainly google has teams that are busy, try to make Goode decisions on team march.

Hmm, interesting TC. If you break out your offers more in terms of level and base/RSU/bonus, you might be able to get some advice on negotiating a better offer.
Search around blind for the thread where FBers talk about WLB. At FB you’ll work 50% more and get a 7% boost in comp... choice is clear here.
Word on the street is that FB’s engineering culture is similar to Amazon, albeit with better perks and more money: “creative” coding practices and mountains of tech debt; putting the “W” in WLB; junior-heavy talent distribution. Try to get an offer match from Google; I can still remember a time when Google was pretty aggressive about beating FB offers, specifically, even if it meant going out of band.
I think there's a grain of truth to this, but not more than a grain. The reason I say that is that ex-Amazon folks at FB really stick out culturewise, especially if they're trying to recreate the Amazon culture at FB. So there's clearly a difference. That said, it's true that there's way too much tech debt and incentives can be pretty out of line.

Google's environment is just as stressful in its own way, much more bureaucratic, and you have less control over which team you land on. FB has teams with the WLB you're looking for, just make sure to ask about it when you're picking a team.
