Amazon wants professional references I have a couple in mind, IBM is my first job out of college so I was planning on using one of my intern leads/managers as a reference. But it's such an awkward conversation to have, I've asked for references from internships after they've ended but it seems strange to ask for a referral from an employer I'm still at. Nonetheless there's going to be two from my current employer, but wouldn't it be awkward if I bomb the interview? And stay lmao. What do I even say? Also when does amazon contact references it sounds like it's after onsite (if you pass), so if they contact references that would mean they want to move forward with an offer? If so could I have them wait till after onsite before I ask my references if they could be a professional reference for me? Tagging ibmers to see if anyone else has a perspective on this or if there's an official process
Why do they need references? Can't they validate from work Number?
Aren’t references requested once you accepted the offer??
Nope, requested much earlier in the process, before the on-site. I have got an offer and signed the contract and mine were not contacted yet. YMMV though.
Where was this? Was this for an SDE position? I was only asked for references for my background check and visa after accepting.
I outright rejected the request saying I’ll provide references only if I get the offer. The recruiter had no issues with that.
Is it possible that even if I sign the offer, I still refuse that they contact my current employer? If so what's the best reasoning that can be used?
You can tell Amazon not to call references until they give you an offer and you accept.
I've got burned with a recruiter calling up my boss. He didn't know I was looking at the time...
