Always been a top performer in management at other companies, but can't get an interview at Google, despite having close friends and ex colleagues willing to refer. Tech background, no MBA, but worked my way up to snr management. Any advice how to set myself apart?
Upto VP level ( < 2M TC/yr) is considered middle management. SVP and above is senior management ( > 10M TC /yr). Are you middle or Sr management ?
Any HR or similar at Google that can give me some advice? Do I need to come referred by existing snr Mgmt at Google? I have some of those contacts but in completely unrelated divisions and haven't leveraged those yet.
You might try moving to Amazon as an intermediate step.
Frankly the folks I know at Amazon have put me off the company entirely, whereas everyone I know at Google are people that I respect and would love to learn from...
Perhaps. But you may look more attractive to G if you're a successful EM at AWS...versus F5, which is in many respects just a mini Cisco, minus the willingness to take real risks.
Do you have any mob connections in the bay area? Doubt they will give a top job to an unknown off the street.

Why are women naked in gym?
They usually try to down-level external candidates. Are you open to that?
This.
For the right role but still decent TC, why not.
