How to control your anger when a coworker insults you?
I just came back home and my anger is through the roof as I type this. Today I took my team for a party as only last few days of my notice period are remaining and I will be joining the next gig soon. I invited everyone as I wanted to end things on a good note. This stupid PM who is an IIM A (Ahmedabad) grad also came to the party. (In India IIM A grad == Son of Prime Minister) We all were discussing how the time spent together was and this moron started inquiring where I was leaving for and how much I will be getting there and all. I didn't told him anything and just said it's a decent company (Though I will be joining Microsoft as SDE-2 :p) Finally, he said "At least now we can hire better engineers". After hearing that I wanted to take the beer bottle and hit on his head. I controlled myself there and my face got red. Everyone started asking "What happened?" and I didn't said anything. How dare he????????? and once I leave the company he will keep on speaking non-sense about me. Our Contributions in last 6 months: Him (PM from IIM A): Played PUBG in office whole time Bragged about how he banged this "chick" and that "chick" Played dirty office politics and kept on blaming engineers for his incompetence Kept on bragging he is from IIM A and never did anything for the company Bragged about how he will be able to pay his education debt (loan) just by his 1 year salary (To showoff in front of everyone that how much he is making here) Me (Senior Software Engineer): Built the mobile app from scratch Launched 31 features Built 17 product integrations Migrated the core microservices from Node.js to Golang Handled frontend, backend, and mobile all by myself while leading a team of 3 engineers and upskilling them. and this person INSULTED ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spoiled my entire evening. How to deal with people like these? How dare he? Even if he reads this on blind I don't give a shit. (If you are reading this. I am going to break your neck OK. You're immature, first for getting mad at somebody's comment and then for bragging about your work here.

Just take the high road. Youāre on to bigger and better opportunities. Obviously there was a reason you were looking to leave your current company. No point getting angry about things you canāt control. Or just pee in his tea next week. Actually...thatās the better idea. Do that instead.

Tell him where you are going and 3X your new TC and let him die in jealousy

Don't let a spoiled brag get in your head. Next time you get comment like this respond with sarcasm like "oh yeah I know, I was paid for doing nothing all this time haha" Sarcasm will void their comment & take the power away from them... In meantime just let go, no one is worth the anger, you have better things to spend your time on like the exciting new opportunity, best of luck!
