I came to know from a friend who got an offer for a similar role and he was able to negotiate 25k more than me
It is a shitty feeling and you will get through it. Life is not fair. In the end it comes out to how you react to this. Remind yourself on the good that the change will bring. Focus on what is important for you like maximizing the enjoyment of doing work and focusing on the important things outside of work like strong relationships. There is no rush in getting to your destination. Enjoy the journey.
Thanks this helps. I guess I will get over it. Just needed to rant
Now that you know it what will you do about it next time? Everything is a learning experience; have no regrets and learn from every mistake.
Thanks. I will take this as a learning experience.
Did he have competing offers and you didn’t? If so you weren’t “low-balled”
Yeah, he definitely had competing offers. I guess that's how it works.
There is no semblance of pay equity in this business, don’t sweat it. There are many people who make more than people higher ranked than them and with higher ratings than them just because they got lucky on initial offer. You will only fuck yourself if you sweat pay comparison, I’ve had to learn that lesson myself.
Just steal office supplies to make up the $25k.
Lol! Is that what you do when you are in such situation
I am lowballed and making 120k less than I should. Consider it as an incentive for the next move up.
Yeah makes perfect sense
Keep calm and leetcode
Congrats to your friend for their negotiation skills. Chalk it up as a valuable life lesson and next time do your work to get the best deal for yourself. Your friend isn't necessarily worth $25k more than you, but their negotiating tactics definitely are.
Ignore that completely. Will fuck up your motivation and performance on the new job if you start with that focus. Obviously you must have accepted the offer because it made sense to you financially. There will be people doing your exact job earning more than you or less than you.
That's true. I did accept the offer because it was on par with my research. I think there is no point fretting over one outlier
Which company?
