I have 4yrs of experience in sales, account management & compliance management in the healthcare & energy industry. I’m looking to make a career change and move into banking compliance. I’m finding it very hard to get my foot in the door anywhere though. Location wise, I would prefer NYC, but I’m open to relocating anywhere if that means getting my foot in the door.
Don’t have much advice other than keep applying. All of the big banks are pretty much always hiring in the AML/BSA space. Getting past the online application is one of the biggest hurdles. Make sure to tailor your resume as much as possible to each job description to increase your chances of getting it in front of a person.

I don’t. Nobody cares about CAMS at most places. Definitely not at JPMC.
Try in Marqeta Fintech start up in Oakland
Try PayPal NYC..
Capital ones aml department is a mess, so if others are like that I'd suggest staying away from that area
Hard agree. Biggest reason I left was the shitstorm that department is.
Yup AML at C1 is s*show
If you are open to relocate to Tampa, there are a lot opportunities at Citi. Let me know if you are interested.
I am definitely interested! What would be the next step?
CAMS won’t get you too far without experience in the space but it may get you noticed. Best bet to start off entry level. I would actually look at Credit Unions instead of the big banks. Reason is that for the big banks the roles are tightly siloed. You won’t learn much beyond your particular function. Credit unions tend to have less people so compliance is responsible for a bigger pie and you need to know and be responsible for more. That and big banks tend to treat analysts like crap and very production oriented so that if you don’t hit your numbers you’re out. Sign up for a ACAMS membership, they have a job forum and you could apply. If you’re ever in CA or want more info PM me. I’ve been in the field for over a decade.
Submit a cover letter with each app, and don't make it completely generic. What I did was create a template for each industry and then put anything that needed to change from company to company in bold, italics, underlined, and yellow highlighting. Go in for each app, swap out the required stuff (<5 min per) and submit. Things that change are company name, role/department, hiring manager or somebody in that department if I can find it (even if you're wrong, they'l like that you tried to figure out the person's name)
Curious re Banking compliance career change - why do you want to change into here? Is it for wlb or else?
