I'm up for a promotion in Google soon. This will be my first promotion (2.5 YOE), so I don't fully know if there's any space for you to negotiate your compensation. I started with a fairly low base for SWE II - 105k, 90k stocks - since I didn't have any competing offers then. I wanted to see if I bring up potential competing offers now would be seen as negotiating leverage, or rather an offense.
Be ready to leave. Otherwise stay put, grasshopper.
I don't really have an answer, but I would like to ask, did you get a signing bonus?
Yeah 15k
Get L4 at Google and join another company as L5 in a few months. Google doesn't counter below L5.
Google, like many other companies, has a performance review process. Salary adjustments are merit-based. If you perform well, you should get relatively significant base bumps.
You don’t negotiate promotion raises. Get the raise and work for next promotion/raise or look to switch companies

Definitely not unless you’re ready to leave.
