How to get to know the hiring manager

When you interview with a company, what kind of conversation should you have with the Hiring Manager to understand if you want to work for his team ?

My expectations for my manager would be:
1. Have clear and well defined goals
2. Help me navigate my career in the company
3. Understand what I like to work on and where can I have the maximum impact for the company and help me grow in that area?

What questions/conversation do you have in the hiring manager round ?

No trolls please...

This is a good question - ideally manager trust is important - but clarity of goals and deliverables is the fundamental expectation

Some of the FAANG don't even let you know the exact job you're interviewing for. You're on the conveyor belt for them and they choose if they would pick you for a job they had for a broad function. Most candidates sell their choice for high TC if they don't get their pick or level. What would you do?

In most other companies, you could ask the recruiter politely, or ask your friend who referred you, or ask everyone in the interview process, or try to investigate on LinkedIn based on matching your job description and that company's employee LinkedIn profile and cold email.

You want to ask hiring manager about their style, the org structure, their current challenges, where you fit in, the profile of all of their team, and anything you should do from the offer until first 3months on the job.

Ask to meet your future coworkers before you make a decision. Good luck!
