I have heard this many times that Google downlevels people coming from Amazon. I am L5 SDE in Amazon with total 6 years of experience (4.5 years in Amazon out of that). I don't want to wait for promotion in my current team as it is flaky situation due to shitty manager and work. Switching teams is also going to delay the promo further and will add more uncertainty. I am preparing for FB/Google interviews and want to get there at level similar to Amazon L6 (SDE3). I believe people here on blind have experienced this and might have crossed this hurdle already. Any tips/tricks provided will be grateful. Thanks.
Google will give you L4 then you could get promoted once you are there. Their L4 tc would similar to your L5 in Amazon but it’s Google
I moved from AMZN L5 to FB E4 and got promoted to E5 within a year. The promo was a pretty lightweight process, way simpler than AMZN’s L5 to L6. The bar for coming in as E5 is pretty high, so this is not a bad way to do it.
Can I Please DM you?
Tell the recruiter you want an L5 interview loop but you might consider an L4 offer as well. I did that with 2.5 YoE, got L4 offer because "there were some L4 signals in the system design interview".
Google not sure. FB E5 is possible. Let your recruiter know you want to interview for E5. Do well on your system design and behavioral rounds and you should be get an offer. I was in a similar scenario I got an offer from FB E5 while I was an L5.
Amazon L5 usually get L4 or E4. It is unlikely they will interview you for 5
E5 at FB is totally possible
thanks. What is the usual E5 TC for external hires with 6 YoE at Fb?
starting from base 180, rsu 400 and sign on 0. Going up from there if you have justifications for them to bump the offer. 6 yoe doesn't mean you can get e5. It depends on your interview performance and the impact you made in amzn
At G my recruiter said 7 YOE for L5 consideration at interview, or 6 YOE + master's. I've heard of people getting L5 offers with a lot less, but I think that's pretty rare
It’s not possible
