I have 15+ years of CRM product development (at SAP Labs) and technical consulting experience in SAP. Managed large SAP projects. Looking for a change in career and goal is to land in a TPM role. Do you think I need get an MBA ? May be a certificate from a reputed school ? Any suggestions to reach my goal will be highly appreciated.
A CS degree would be more helpful than an MBA for TPM. Certificates arent worth much. Are you willing to do something entry level as a TPM? Also I would aim for starting out at a lesser company. Hard to get into FAANG as a TPM unless you are a senior TPM, engineer or manager/director somewhere else.
Thanks. I have a EE degree and last 15 years were in IT. I am fluent in SDLC and technical aspects in CS. Have not done a lot of coding in the past 5 years. My current role is an Engagement / Program manager overseeing a portfolio of SAP projects at a Media client. Yes, I am willing to start as an Entry level PM.
With that kind of experience I would recommend trying to get into SAP or maybe Salesforce as a TPM. From there you could hop to a FAANG after a few years if you are good, though you'd likely down level again.
If you saw some of the tpms at Amazon, you’ll wonder how they even got the job....
