How to move/fight/grow from this bad situation?

SDE 2, 7yrs total experience with almost 8months at Amazon. Previously worked as SDE at mid sized company. Current situation- Was having some personal issues so didn’t do anything meaningful in current year till now. I’m extreme introvert. I mostly do side work- bug fixes and minor improvements. Nobody in team sees me as trustworthy and look forward since I really don’t own any specific feature/module. When I suggest anything nobody listens probably they see me as saying some BS or may be I’m thinking too much. I’m quite sure I would be LE but manager didn’t disclosed it. Comp letter for this year was having zero increment and zero stocks grant. With my personal situation getting better I need advice what should I do immediately to get my career back on track at Amazon or shall I just reset it by looking outside. Thanks in advance!

Interview at Uber. Amazon is the pit of hell

Google fkckjuiwkc Apr 10, 2018

Has Uber work life balance improved from a year ago? Or is there still an unspoken expectation that you'll be in the office past 7?

Uber Mashburn Apr 10, 2018

It’s straight chill nowadays. No one is around past 430.

Be a good teammate and Deliver results. Keeping your head down and getting those sprint stickies moving would get you some credibility back! People here like doers and not talkers ..

Amazon mXfT18 Apr 10, 2018

LOL you must be new here. Amazon is all about talking and “selling” your work to keep that promotion treadmill going. What have you built and innovated lately? No one gives a shit that you kept some critical service running. That’s what LE-ranked losers do. Why do you think this company churns out so much half-baked broken shit? Look at how many internal services, many critical, are abandoned or are being deprecated because the people who made them either left for better workplaces or got “managed out”.

Yup, have seen it. There are people who will talk a lot about their work and also talk about your work giving a sense that they did all the work themselves in front of higher ups

You probably need a reset. Regardless of your personal issues, CI/CD does not care, so your coworkers likely developed a distaste for you. Zero incremental comp illustrates this. Good luck

Time to move on.

Change team or company and start fresh . It is hard to change perceptions once they are set

Move

Amazon springbean Apr 10, 2018

Generally you won’t see any comp change if you’ve been at the company for less than a year, since your initial compensation offer is usually still valid and in range. That DOES NOT mean you are LE. Your feelings are pretty normal for someone 8mos in. Amazon is a tough place to work sometimes. Don’t beat yourself up about it.

Amazon Away.throw Apr 10, 2018

This. I think you’re projecting quite a few feelings on your teammates from your own self-doubt. Unless you’re actively screwing things up, most people are ambivalent. You will need to Earn Trust, either with this team or the next. Start delivering things and showing that you “get it.”

I violently second this position. OP, listen to me carefully...i had zero increment the first year I joined. I felt the same thing you're feeling. Did the same kind of work you're doing. You know what, 5 years on, I'm going strong here and no plans on leaving. These are very normal teathing problems. Hang in there bro, things will start looking better once you hit a stride.

0 RSUs is expected during your first performance review at Amazon.. 0% increment is also kinda expected if your initial offer was high enough .. so those are not your concerns.. you need to focus on owning a sub module and deliver the results... Since your personal issues are kinda resolved, I would suggest you should give another 6 to 9 months and see how things are going at Amazon.. if things doesn't improve in 6 months, then start looking outside..

Take two weeks off. Before that ask your manager how are you doing. Dont let your fears or any personal problems out.

Amazon sdegrow OP Apr 10, 2018

Does taking leaves helps or it will worsen situation? What shall I do in those two weeks?

Amazon ramboner Apr 10, 2018

Sounds like you got LE, but you should ask your manager for your rating. That’s not something they should be keeping confidential

Amazon springbean Apr 10, 2018

Managers are required to keep ratings confidential.
