I got an offer from a mid size start up 150k base 20k sign on 300k stocks each worth 120k as of today I declined the offer since my current base is higher than this. Since then the engineering folks are personally texting me to come spend some time with the team and company, also offered me to join them for lunch. I have been saying i will think abt it but the regular texts messages makes me doubt the company..
I understand. First, I would expect the company not text me. If they text you regularly, I’d be overwhelmed too. Honestly though, if they were to offer more, would you accept the offer? Who in the company is texting you? Are you, say, a female. Anyway, back to the main question. I would send them an email, not text message: “Hey! So I just want to say thank you for taking the time to setup the interviews for me. I enjoyed learning about your company. I had fun talking to all the interviewers. I really do appreciate your generous offer, but I have to decline the invitation, unfortunately. I hope you understand. Good luck with talent search!!” Then block the number, including LinkedIn if you want to.
No thanx bitch, kthnxbai
Dear Hiring Manager and my not to become teammates. Its not you. Its me. Forgive me for not giving us a chance. Life is unpredictable. We may come cross somewhere, some time. Until then, so long.
Its a startup, so put the stock value aside for now. If you expected same base or same or better TC from a startup as a public company, that's just wrong. May be you even mislead them. I think they gave you a reasonable offer. It's normal startup teams to meet and spend time to learn the fit. If your base is the only concern, talk to them. See if you can come to some agreements. They will try to keep base low for everyone's sake, but may be give you a speacial bonus every 6 months to make up the pay until they have next round to bump your pay up!
Base was my concern but now the daily texts are my concern too.Never seen that sorta thing before
Perhaps engineering doesn't know declined, or as you said you will think about it, they are still trying to convince you!
Why is this a question? Just say no thanks. Anything more is just added stress for you. Live.
And you told them the reason for declining, right ? And they're not raising the offer and just keep texting you ? That's weird
Startups have hard time finding great people nowadays:)
Yeah since most of them will fail and equity is just a luck gamble. Some successful one however have equity diluted so much equity does not worth as much as one would hope. I always look for strong base.
You might as well take the equity and buy lottery tickets. It’s a shame because the big are only going to get bigger.
Suggest expensive places. Eat lobster and caviar for free. Profit
I had 2 offers at once, and it was awkward for me to turn one down. I just said “thanks so much for considering me, but I have decided to take another offer.” They were nice about it. At the end of the day, most people understand that it’s just business.
300k stocks each worth 120k? Isn't that like 36 billion? Is that in Monopoly money?
Not each..combined worth
Of course it's a typo... Why you have to be an asshole...
