I have 18 yoe. MS in CS. Current TC is $230k in Bay Area. For the last 6 years I am working on iOS platform. Just finished 1 year at G. Technical skills is not a problem. Single earner with one kid. I just can seem to save anything and $230k seems unsustainable. What should I do to get to $500k TC ASAP. I would prefer to avoid FB and Amazon. Any other tier 1 or 2 companies that can pay well?
Reach L6
Not that easy. Maybe if I work my ass off for next 5-10 years I might get there.

What's your current level?
18 years exp In Google currently $230k TC? Instead of asking what should you do to get $500k TC , You should spend some.time and understand what you did in the past to get $230k TC. Are you L4? Are you in Tier 2 city? Would movie to Low cost city help?
Biggest mistake of my career is not have Blind in my life.
There's no reason you couldn't go add 200k+ to your comp with a bit of interview prep and strong competing offers. I would assume you should actually be able to go higher, but I'm assuming there's something about your scope / level of impact that has kept you where you are. Tldr, prep a lot, interview hard, sell yourself well, negotiate well.
I feel like you are being paid just fine but have a budget problem - 1 income household in NOVA at 50k.
Leetcode baby and start interviewing
Can optimize obscure algorithms but can't optimize monthly budget....
💯💯💯💯 OP is making top 1% money. It’s never enough....
It's not in sf. The base is probably around 150k. Rent for a 2 bedroom is at least 4k with a 1 hour commute. 4k post post tax is like 70% of his take home. Kids are expensive if he also maxes out his 401k. Depending on his stock vesting schedule, it could make things better. If the stock vests yearly, it really doesn't help 12 months of the year.
Step one get a job at any fang (avoid amzn obviously). That's it.
Move out of the area, say Austin or Seattle. Let’s say you are still at google you will still make $230k. Saving becomes much easier now.
Has anyone actually done this to confirm that this is an option?
Move out of the area
Seattle too cloudy, NY too cold, Austin too boring. BA seems fine as long as I get decent TC.
