Hello! I got a verbal offer from Apple a year ago which went nowhere because the req was not approved by the Sr VP at Apple. They said they hired someone else before me who got the req. It was a bummer to me as it happened after i got the verbal offer and negotiated. Anyway, I have moved on to Amazon from Intel (didnt bother to update my blind account login). My Amazon pay in 2019 was a little less than what Apple offered me verbally in 2018. Recently the recruiter from the same group from Apple poached me saying we are getting a req. and we would like to consider you, are you interested. I am at Amazon since half a year and have excellent relationship and support from my coworkers. I am very happy. However, i am not happy that my pay is little less than what Apple offered me (about 10k less). How to bring this up to manager? Shall i go in to Apple for interview and try getting a written offer? I am also bit upset with them for wasting my time last year but I saw these kind of things happened at Intel too where req wasn't approved even if candidate was excellent. Thoughts? I honestly can talk anything with my current manager. He is a great person, but i am not sure how to get the raise i would like. At Amazon we get sign on bonus and stocks esting over 4 yeaes and from my understanding pay will be flat for 4 years. I do have great work life balance thanks to my manager and supportive coworkers at Amazon. I also like that i can work on multiple areas and develop breath of skills. I am hesitant to risk it and look like a grasshopper in my resume. Though Apple is intriguing. However I do not want them to waste my time again. T: 315k for next 4 years. 12 yoe+PhD, EE, HW. Apple verbal offer was 325k in 2018 (i couldnt use it in 2019 for counteroffer cos it went nowhere at that time) Both Bay area
For 10k extra, does not sound like worth the time and effort. Is Apple giving you more money?
I can figure by interviewing and potentially wasting energy again. But maybe this time i will get the written offer given they see I moved on to Amazon.
I would ask Apple recruiter to clarify the level and salary range for this role first before interviewing
I wouldn’t bother for 10k bump
Tell Apple that TC needs to be revised... You are interested but you like current company manager coworker and the project. You need some incentive to leave all this. if the difference becomes significant, move.
Agreed^
Stay at Amazon, if you wanted to join Apple interview again
I am not sure to switch to Apple, have never worked there before. But maybe give it a shot until i get a verbal offer again to find my market value. I can allways decide at that time after considering all advice.
Which team you have offer from Apple? I think team is most important not company.
10k is too less , don't interview unless you get 50k bump atleast
Agree ☝️
I had the similar experience with apple. (Posted yesterday). Got verbal and the vp did not approve. This was for a swe role. Whats the guarantee that if you interview again, the vp will approve ? If they want to offer, tell them to skip the interview and make a written offer to begin with 20% bump from your amazon pay.
Tell the recruiter that while Apple is indeed an enticing proposition, you are actually very happy at Amazon and for the money they was talked about before... There's no way you would move. That leaves them the opportunity to try to convince you that you should jump. And if they don't... Nothing lost
It’s not worth moving for a 10k bump. Also, it’s difficult to find a good team with good wlb. You can always negotiate on $, but getting a good team is not in one’s control.
Tell your manager that your pay is not on par with Apple

I wouldn't sweat a 10k difference at that pay level. Especially if you have a good manager and like your team. Those things are not always easy to find, especially at Amazon.
Exactly. Also my coworkers are like angels treating me so well where all i can do is work hard and succeed. I also got huge responsibility and have great visibility. Maybe i can openly chat about this with my manager. They dp undersyand it is a challenge not to lose people to Apple. My friends go to work on Sundays at Apple which I cannot do!
Also not sure if Apple offer is bay area but I think you can reason the cost of living and tax differences.
