Ours is so veiled that TL’s and managers are not supposed to mention the word “ranking” while what’s happening behind the scenes is a total stack ranking popularity contest type of thing.

    🙄

It’s all relative. Depends on it if was a bad or good review.

Good or bad review is fine. But, how fair is it? Do you work with your manager on promotion timelines? How much visibility do you have in your ratings?

How do you define fair? Are you just referring to transparency?

Fair promotion process is when you work with your manager on a plan and have a timeline. Unfair is when you get a decision handed down to you.

What you’re talking about isn’t fair vs. unfair then. A “good” manager will have honest discussions with you. Good or bad. They will help you work towards your career plans.

Fair vs. unfair just means you feel if you got what you deserved
