Howard Schultz is polling at 17%

With the Democratic party quickly turning into the Socialist Democratic party, it would seem that moderate Democrats are doing some soul searching and might be looking elsewhere.

Does he have actual policies and plans? I haven’t heard any yet. Or do people just like the idea of a billionaire who claims to be “independent” and isn’t Donald trump?

Edit: lol the article cites an internal poll from his campaign. Of course he wants you to think he has a chance

      OP
Personally I'm kind of turned off with the Democratic Party pushing 3rd trimester abortion (I'm pro-choice), talking about 70% tax rates, embracing illegal immigrants over citizens, and overall just going full blown Socialist.
      Feb 5
    • Walmart.com ToKL28
When people will get educated and realize that 3rd trimester abortions is only for the cases of very unfortunate health conditions, when the fetus is not viable?

      You should vote Republican then.
      Feb 5
    • Do you make $10MM per year, OP? That's the 70% tax bracket that's being proposed.

No policies. He just got scared hearing that we’re going to repeal the bush era tax cuts for multi millionaires and this is his last ditch effort at wealth hoarding

    • Amazon wario
It’s an internal poll from his campaign , and only 17% of them believe in him? 🤣

There’s nothing socialist about the democrats unfortunately.

They don’t get the same services from the government. There’s no police force that goes around harassing millionaires.

Because they don’t have it.... I personally find the “justice” based arguments against progressive taxation to be unconvincing at best. Morality isn’t as simple as being fair.
      Feb 5
    • LinkedIn YVmc82
Not only that, but realize that the key is to give everyone the same tax burden according to their ability to pay it. Why shouldn’t everyone pay a flat 25%? Because 25% of income feels very different for a middle class and an upper class person.

What do you People think happens to the economy and jobs when rich People flee the country to avoid paying high taxes?
      Feb 5
    • LinkedIn YVmc82
Flee to where? We’d still have some of the lowest income tax rates amongst industrialized countries from what I can see from 30 secs checking Wikipedia.
      Feb 5
    • Credit Karma EllisDee25
Most wouldn’t “flee”. But... your argument is that we shouldn’t pass policies that go against the wishes of millionaires because millionaires believe they are above democracy and laws don’t apply to them? You convinced me: freeze their accounts and confiscate all their wealth.

If you share a house with someone, do you split up the rent based on each person’s income, or by some other means (equal share, or based on sq ft)? Not sure why we shouldn’t all pay a flat tax of $20K/person.

Lol. This is why people want to push over google buses.
      Feb 5
    • LinkedIn YVmc82
What works on a personal level and what works for a society are two different things. But even taking your example, my girlfriend and I live together in the Bay Area. I make much more than she does. We pay rent proportional to our income, because to split equally would leave her with very little free income.
      Feb 5
    • Intel Sjkopgg
Family units are socialistic by nature because I have a vested interest in the survival of my genes. Everyone else, who gives a fuck.

People that want to push over Google buses are sore losers.

I like Howard Schultz and will support him. There’s actually a lot of people in this country that are not socialists like the New top Democrats and also don’t like Trump. I think he has a shot at winning if the dems nominate a socialist. If the dems nominate a moderate like joe Biden then Shultz has no chance

The top Democrats are “third way” neoliberals. It’s the Democrat’s base and significant chunks of the eligible non-voting population that are becoming more favorable to socialism.

It is the left (and more popular) version of Trump right-populism. The main difference is that a Republican politician could back Trump and still lick boots on Wall Street. The Democrat establishment are in a trickier spot because backing someone like Sanders is harder to square with representing the lobbyists and corporate interests.

I'd consider him to be a strong contender if he doesn't give up too soon due to the usual smear tactics of career politicians. Him with Bernie or Kamala Harris would have huge popular appeal, regardless of policies.
    Feb 59
    • Apple ijyA68
Why would Kamala, a bi-coastal Elite who wants to take away your insurance plane, have “huge popular appeal”? You are just fantasizing.
      Feb 5
    • Oracle fatalflaw
Popularity is easy to achieve. That's what I think can work for her unless she gets labeled as a flip-flopper like John Kerry or something like that...
      Feb 5
    • Apple ijyA68
She’ll have to come up with something besides taking anyway everyone ‘s guns, banning health insurance, and snarky questions to Republican nominees.

    • Oracle fatalflaw
Yes, of course. But she may be ahead of several other Dems due to various reasons. Saying things that generate applause works for everyone. It's luck of the draw and a swing in the opposite direction every election. Again, looking at this dispassionately, as an observer of how they all game the system.

+ If it wasn't for undermining him within the party, Bernie would have been a much stronger contender to Trump. (Again, not saying that's good or bad, but talking about popularity.)

Other than recovery of costs of drug discovery and trials, the excessive costs are due to overheads and malpractice lawsuit threats in the US.

I considered myself a fiscal conservative, but I don't agree with every point there. I support reining in the deficit, no tax cuts. But I also support environmental regulation and Obamacare.
