How’s WLB at AWS in general?

Some complain about WLB at AWS such as long hours, heavy ops, fast pacing. Some maintain good WLB, and love their work. In the retail side, from my view, we have many teams that have good WLB. Just a curiosity, how’s WLB at AWS in general?

It still depends on you end of the day, but yes you will be surrounded by people constantly behind getting things done and working long hrs. And trust me its addictive and contagious :)

I agree it’s super addictive and contagious. At the same time, no one cares if I come in at 10 and leave at 4

Is it the reason you moved to Microsoft?

Just joined AWS as a new grad so prob not as accurate. Firstly, onboarding for me was complete trash. I was browsing SO many wikis the first few days to try and understand my team's architecture and design. When I got my first task, had to do a lot of questioning and I sort of wanted to be hand held (you know, just in the beginning to get used to things). Aside from that, the people are very nice and communicative. WLB might get rekt when on calls kick in, but aside from that, everything is standard

“It took me a whole few days to learn the design” 🙄 yeesh. Typical spoiled college grad

I never said I completely understood it. I just understood enough for my task. There's still a lot of learning I'm doing.

I'm an intern and I work 50 to 60 hours a week. This is the most challenging internship in my life.

How often are you allowed to work remote for a day or so?

Dependent on manager. My manager said to just let the team know and you can do whatever you want
