Compared to SF or Toronto. Looking at things like dating scene, things to do, food quality, nightlife, amount of young people/diversity in general. Obviously I know Pittsburgh will have a lower CoL. Another factor is that most of my friends are going to be in the Bay Area, so I’ll have to make some new friends as well.
Lived there in 2010 for first job. I had fun and enjoyed it overall. My friends were all in SF too, so it couldn’t compare, but it was reasonable for a few years. Very up and coming, better than most of the rust belt. I was making like 50k and living like a king, so cheap. Driving suuuucks balls, impossible without google maps, you drive 1h for everything. Dating and girls were fine, but no one had ever left Pittsburgh. Girls were dating to get married and move to the suburbs. I almost miss how normal it is over SF, but I still prefer SF. Give it a try?
I’m not sure about the driving part. You can easily offers to live in the city. The traffic is not as bad as in Bay Area. I’ve been there too for a short time and driving in Bay Area actually sucks
It’s like a smaller Seattle.Comparing it to Toronto would be hard
very little diversity in the Pitt.
I’m a guy in mid 20s and working for almost a year in Pittsburgh. The city is super cheap for what it offers. Dating scenes are fine. I had a hard time finding someone (I was particular in finding someone of my race) I have considered multiple times to switch to Bay Area. All my friends are in Bay Area as well. You can easily make friends here. The only downside is dating scene if you have restrictions. But the cost of living is extremely low here
So you're saying there's only white and black people? Come on.
I didn’t say that. I just said it is harder
Pittsburgh scene is growing, but it's no SF or Toronto. Personally, the diversity is getting better. Dating wise, you'll find someone.
If you plan to use dating apps you will run out of profiles to swipe in say 3-4 days and maybe even faster depending on how much you use. After that they will repeat. Two big schools and several smaller ones so decent young population. Other things like food, nightlife etc are just kind of okay but dont compare it to SF at all.
Was there 1999-2004 at CMU. I grew up in Miami and had as much fun in Pittsburgh as Miami. Take a car. Lived in Oakland, shady side, and Monroeville. People we're really nice. Did date native Pittsburgh girls. Go clubbing in strip district, check out Southside and Shadyside. If you really want to date I suggest u get some bartender gig for weekends. My grades went up when I left campus. Made great friends with folks in Indiana, PA... Check out Wolfie's at IUP...

Is Amazon really that bad if you work 60-80 hour weeks anyway?
Do you like shitty weather, mediocre food, and ass-backwards people who regularly vote against their best interests? If yes, then literally anywhere in the midwest is for you!
Pittsburgh is the Midwest? - a confused Canadian
"Technically." It's a rust belt city, so compare with Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, etc... If you can handle GTA winters, then you'll be fine. If you're a lib/ndp voter, then you'll find the political thinking outside of the metro center to be horrific. End of the day, it is just another rust belt city trying to rebuild.
