WeWork Docker next one?
Juul. Easily replicatable product, bad PR, cray valuation, possible regulation of the market.
Cohesity, doordash, flexport, lime,bird .zume
Thinking Lime, Bird, Scoot, and Spin are sure to fail. DoorDash, Instacart, other delivery services will flop.
Delivery services will consolidate. There are too many and nothing special to drive loyalty.
I don't even think there's margin. Restaurants and grocery are low margin industries. So a delivery service either eats into those margins but makes up for it by adding volume, or it charges customers to make its money. Neither one looks promising as a revenue stream. None of these companies "disrupted" anything; they optimized a dispatch service and used contractors to drive wages down.
Cohesity has SoftBank funding like WeWork. Hmmm. Docker has nothing special in 2019, and is valued too high. Buhbye.
SoftBank also funded WeWork and Fungible. Who funds does not matter.
It does matter in terms of the advice they give and how they would like to see a return on their investment. Also who they support for the Board, and how “clean” they like their corporate governance. Are they building a company for the long haul, looking for a quick payoff, throwing darts at a board? SoftBank is weak. Just look at the crap they allowed at WeWork, and the billion dollars they threw away to buy out Neumann.
Flexport won’t fail. They have a great prod/market fit in an untapped market. Little competition
Things aren’t looking great for OYO. Which sucks because I work there haha
WTF is OYO?
How about Kozmo.com? Sound familiar? “Co-founded by young New York City-area investment bankers Joseph Park and Yong Kang in 1997, Kozmo promised free one-hour delivery of items like videos, games, DVDs, books, magazines and food, with no delivery minimum. The company raised $250 million in venture funding from investors like Amazon, Oak Investment Partners and a subsidiary of Chase Manhattan bank, and expanded quickly into a dozen urban markets. The company failed in April 2001.”
Magic leap
Lol
How about Splunk ?
I don’t think they qualify as a startup at this point
