How much money do you send to your parents every month? Now, my fiancee doesnt like the idea and her argument is quite logical. How would you tackle this? Comment if reason to send is interesting
This is such a bad idea.
Your parents worked hard to raise you and if they are no longer working and have no or limited income then yeah, you need to help them financially.
So true and will definitely continue to do
And what if they voluntarily quit jobs while they're still working age? And throw money into the fan, wasting it on stupid things each month? Where then does our obligation cease?
They actually still work and our tenant covers our monthly expense.
For Indian parents it's always true. I send over $1500 per month for them and sadly cannot even claim any tax benefits since they are not in USA.
Same boat. Honestly, do you think they need 1500$ as allowance?
$1500 in India a month has to be excessive.... Or is that 1500 in rupees?
Unlike yours, my parents were responsible and saved enough for their retirement. I will gladly help them if they request/need. I just think that failing to save for retirement and relying on your kids is irresponsible (and dangerous - what would they do if you turned out an egotistical asshole?)
I send about $300 a month and take care of all the bills that can be paid online. My brother sends another $300ish a month
What is your fiancee's logical reason? Do you think your parents are in need of money?
My wife’s fam is in this situation, and didn’t take care of finances. Worked for church’s, and other low salary jobs with no options to invest, save or even buy a house. It’s a huge bummer, but my wife is working hard in her own career to make changes to it.
Your parents probably saved more for themselves relatively since they are from a conservative generation unless you are paying off a loan.
