I know this is unprofessional and frankly a little immature, but I sure despise my 1:1 meetings with my manager lately. They’re always a scattered conversation of changing expectations, micro management, and unpleasant minutae. I hope my direct reports feel differently about my meetings with them. Unfortunately, it’s time to make a change. #ventingFrustration
Switch teams. It will only get worse.... (and worse, and worse, and worse, until either you quit or get fired)
He likely feels the same. Rock beat scissor.
Set an agenda for the 1:1s. Tell your manager how you want to use that time. Don’t fall into the trap where your 1:1s are only status reports. You should be getting something out of the discussion like career advice etc.
This is solid advice. Thank you.
This. Bear in mind your manager might not be able to make the conversations as focused as you want because of his/her own lack of direction from higher ups. And you can be frank and have an open yet polite conversation about how you both need to make the 1:1 s more productive, assuming your manager will take it positively.
You’re getting micro managed at management level at adobe? Is this one off?
There are lots of layers. My manager loves control, and enjoys telling others how to do their job, direct report or not, it seems.
Is he/she a group mgr, director or vp? A bit weird to hear that. I’m guessing it’s a groupm

Make an agenda for the meeting and also make a todo list. Discuss each item on the list and make an agreement. In the subsequent meetings follow up.
As a manager, if you still let your manager to micromanage you and also your subordinates, you should escalate it to your skip manager urgently.
Have you tried telling your manager?
I have tried expressing some of my concern in the past as things have been getting worse. A recent re-org and change in senior leadership seems to have added to the pain.
