Husbands and wives separated for half a century from a more tumultuous age were reunited via discovered connections.

Patients sentenced to death by a terminal illness gained the will to live for themselves and their loved ones via groups.

Small businesses otherwise driven out of town by Amazon returned to profitability via FB business pages.

Boys and girls across the globe shared their sweetest moments with each other via Messenger and Stories.

Youths longing for democracy and freedom organized and toppled their regime via Events.

Role models spread their positive influence to millions via Instagram.

Grandparents enjoyed their sunsetting years with their grandchildren via Portal.

Facebook changed our lives. I want to give a shout out to all working at Facebook including Mark and Sheryl: Stay strong, stay connected. This too shall pass and you will emerge stronger.

Also I have 3 yoe in frontend development. Can any FBer give me a referral? Thank you very much!

The negatives outweigh the positives. FB has been a net negative for humanity.

Here are the reasons for hate on FB:

    1. Media companies hate FB as we have been eating their lunch with newsfeed. Any chance they get they want to shun down FB as evil and manipulate and blah blah while ignoring shit network like Fox.

    2. Googlers are upset that their TC is below FB (yeah even with market correction) and want to bash FB. Besides they failed with Google+ and want to bash fb even more, so they can sleep well.

Omgsev, your argument to “why Facebook is good for humanity” is “we pay our white collar employees more than Amazon pays its warehouse workers?”

No of course not. You’re just wanking around your TC dong trying to look like a big boy. You don’t look like a big boy to me.

You look like a little boy child that needs a spanking on the bottom.

At the end of the day, we are all here for $$$. Don't kid yourself if you believe you don't work for money. Go and work for a non profit Corp like Red Cross. Amazon is more evil more driving the homeless population in Seattle, putting small businesses out and paying peanuts to Warehouse workers.

At FB, yes we may have fucked up and are working to improve our platform.

Lmao. Comparing TC between FB and AMZN while factoring in unskilled labor working in fulfillment centers is disingenuous. Weak as hell bro. And that’s assuming that TC exempts a company from acting in shady ways. You’re an engineer, so I assume that your shoddy logic is from emotional bias rather than fundamental lack of cognition. But come on, man.

I don’t get people who give referrals to other people they never met.
You are doing a disservice to your company by being dishonest.

    • Facebook Etiys
No they are not. As long as they are clear about why they are referring. It's not like they are skipping interviews. I would refer someone because they seemed passionate and smart even if I haven't worked with them. But I would explain in the referral. They would have to show strong performance in interviews and have requisite experience.

Which part of “never met” you didn’t get?

If you are coming to conclusions about person’s skills based on ONE blind post... you have a lot to learn in life.

Physically meeting someone is not necessary. Blind posts are not sufficient.

Agreed. I don’t think the original commenter was necessary implying physical meeting, but rather some sort of deeper acquaintance than would exist from one-way communication like this Blind reachout.

I think all social media is bad, but Twitter is far worse than FB. Twitter is straight up cancer and it somehow flies under the radar. There is an inherent flaw in social media where connecting people will always end up in people dividing themselves into their own tribes and creating a fake online persona for themselves

  • There is no material in the attack on facebook.

Media has found a hot topic and are using it as clickbait. It will fade off as public short-spanned attention is distracted to another hot topic in a few weeks.

In an ideal world fb *Would* be a net positives. It has been for my social circle .. but a platform that aims to connect everyone is asking to be abused in sooo many ways. I'm not convinced you can entirely blame FB for the fact that people abuse it, get addicted to it, accept the fake news as fact etc. Could they do better ? Of course. But to me that just means they have some fantastic challenges ahead. (Nope, I'm not looking for a job at FB)

Am also hoping for FB to pull thru this mess.

From my home office chair hundreds of miles away from their hq, they need to clean house and fire that guy who said they need to expand at all costs.

The masses are sheep, and they are eating up whatever the butt hurt media throws at them. That is why people think FB is a bad. It’s really that simple.

Security-minded people and those concerned about the impact of social media on mental heath have been talking about this for far longer than Facebook has been under significant media fire. The suggestion that there haven’t been any legitimate questions about Facebook’s operating model is, frankly, fucking ridiculous.

It’s true that the masses are swayed by media. It’s also true that people defending Facebook are irrationally biased. Both can be true.

They are hardly scientific or legitimate. They mostly follow the “cars and knives have edges and can kill you” narrative to delude you into believing that FB somehow has a net negative impact on society, a statement that is closer to religious dogma than it is to substantiated scientific facts. They have usually been brushed off by the public until the recent media uproar.

The burden of proof is on Facebook to prove that their free app is helpful to society. No one is paying for it. But they sure are profiting off of it. And it’s not a charitable institution or government. Something doesn’t add up, and you’re blind or intentionally ignorant if you can’t see that.
      Nov 22, 2018
    • Not really. No one *has* to prove anything. FB, like any corporate, offers a product that you use if you like, otherwise you don’t. I understand that some people feel strongly against it, but so far it has stayed just there, strong emotions and nothing more. I have not heard any good arguments.

There is a pretty substantial part of the US population that blames FB for the 2016 presidential election result. Whether this perception is accurate is irrelevant. For them, this is an unforgivable offense.
