I don't understand the hate on FB

Husbands and wives separated for half a century from a more tumultuous age were reunited via discovered connections. Patients sentenced to death by a terminal illness gained the will to live for themselves and their loved ones via groups. Small businesses otherwise driven out of town by Amazon returned to profitability via FB business pages. Boys and girls across the globe shared their sweetest moments with each other via Messenger and Stories. Youths longing for democracy and freedom organized and toppled their regime via Events. Role models spread their positive influence to millions via Instagram. Grandparents enjoyed their sunsetting years with their grandchildren via Portal. Facebook changed our lives. I want to give a shout out to all working at Facebook including Mark and Sheryl: Stay strong, stay connected. This too shall pass and you will emerge stronger. Also I have 3 yoe in frontend development. Can any FBer give me a referral? Thank you very much!

The negatives outweigh the positives. FB has been a net negative for humanity.

Facebook omgsev Nov 21, 2018

Why do you say that? I can say the same about Google.

This is meaningless hyperbole. You cannot objectively prove that the negatives have outweighed the positives. Most likely you are just influenced by the hype.

Can you suck up to a company anymore. No one at FB is going to give you a referral because you believe in their product.

Amazon awssdm Nov 21, 2018

Not to mention showing terrible judgement (liking FB that is) :)

Shit happens , will make through it.

Am also hoping for FB to pull thru this mess. From my home office chair hundreds of miles away from their hq, they need to clean house and fire that guy who said they need to expand at all costs.

There is no material in the attack on facebook. Media has found a hot topic and are using it as clickbait. It will fade off as public short-spanned attention is distracted to another hot topic in a few weeks.

Athenahealth tcismylife Nov 21, 2018

Agreed, until campfire begins or another Jamal khashoggi dies.

ā€œThere is no materialā€ Lol. Head buried in sand.

You can just say you need a referral. Fb missions was good, but its current business model is evil.

Facebook wild_goose Nov 21, 2018

I donā€™t get people who give referrals to other people they never met. You are doing a disservice to your company by being dishonest.

Facebook Etiys Nov 21, 2018

No they are not. As long as they are clear about why they are referring. It's not like they are skipping interviews. I would refer someone because they seemed passionate and smart even if I haven't worked with them. But I would explain in the referral. They would have to show strong performance in interviews and have requisite experience.

Facebook wild_goose Nov 21, 2018

Which part of ā€œnever metā€ you didnā€™t get? If you are coming to conclusions about personā€™s skills based on ONE blind post... you have a lot to learn in life.

Social media is a plague upon humanity

Facebook omgsev Nov 21, 2018

Here are the reasons for hate on FB: 1. Media companies hate FB as we have been eating their lunch with newsfeed. Any chance they get they want to shun down FB as evil and manipulate and blah blah while ignoring shit network like Fox. 2. Googlers are upset that their TC is below FB (yeah even with market correction) and want to bash FB. Besides they failed with Google+ and want to bash fb even more, so they can sleep well.

LinkedIn psage Nov 21, 2018

Can't agree with 2. more. Many of them envy FB.

Amazon nutboy39 Nov 21, 2018

We get it. You drank the koolaid and are impervious to acknowledgement of actual issues that FB has been party to. Cool.

Amazon å¤šę’šé¤˜ Nov 21, 2018

It is going to happen whether FB did it or not, someone will. We as a civilization will eventually come to this as technology or society progress.
