I love San Francisco

Raising three kids here, and despite all the negativity and bad press we’ve got an amazing life in a fantastic city. https://www.sfchronicle.com/oursf/article/San-Francisco-isn-t-what-it-used-to-be-13901994.php TC 350ish

Going in 1 week!! Any special recommendations besides day trips to Napa, Monterey Bay, Alcatraz and all the touristy things?

Land’s End and Golden Gate Park. Skip Pier 39 and all touristy bullshit.

Uber oOBb03 May 28, 2019

Richmond has some pretty big hydrocarbon tanks at the site of the 2012 Chevron explosion.

Okta doll$h May 28, 2019

It’s one of the beautiful cities in America if you talk about the natural aesthetics for sure. That’s about it.

VMware lawl May 28, 2019

It’s THE best looking city in America

I heard San Diego is even better?

Don’t get me started on Boulder, Co. So much better!

My thoughts exactly. Tone deaf OP

SAP ImposterX OP May 28, 2019

You think that’s a lot of money to raise three kids here? It’s sufficient for us, but we’re far from affluent

San Francisco is a truly special city. I get the chills driving to the Bay Area (every couple months), because I love the atmosphere, the people, the tech scene. It’s also disgusting. I worry when I go into a restaurant or establishment my car is going to broken into while I’m inside. I see multiple people shooting up on the street or smoking things other than marijuana/tobacco with no consequences. It is saddening that these quality of life issues are largely ignored to everyone’s detriment. This is not ok and it’s certainly not compassionate.

So the SF Police department is to blame?

New
MWSt70 May 28, 2019

Largely out of police hands to my understanding. Bigger issues are 1) Prop 47 means that the courts no longer have the ability to incentivize people to get treatment in exchange for having their drug charges dropped (this was Prop 36) 2) Prosecutors who won’t charge many crimes 3) Judges who let criminals off with probation and multiple second chances even if they were already on probation (SF Chronicle Article: “Second chances? How about 11? SF judge takes property crime leniency to new level”) 4) Board of supervisors who refuses to build a badly needed new jail Combination of things that have made the police powerless to do much.

SF is gross. And I've been in many poor countries. SF is a miracle of how gross a super rich city can be.

Salesforce HnKlqP May 28, 2019

Tons of clean neighborhoods. You should try leaving downtown/soma.

Okta doll$h May 28, 2019

Hey Salesforce, give use some name of “clean” neighborhoods! Unless you are talking about those fancy mansions in Pac Heights.

Nvidia civil May 28, 2019

Protip: nobody would really live in that shithole given a choice. You can convince yourself anything is ok when no other options are available, it's called adaptation. No correlation with being good...

VMware lawl May 28, 2019

How is this a pro tip?

SAP ImposterX OP May 28, 2019

What is your experience that makes it a bad place to be? I’ve loved it from the first moment.
