I miss living in Overland Park, KS!
Worked at Cerner in Software Engineering role. I know the pay sucks, and not many visa sponsoring employers in the Kansas City Area. But everything else was perfect: lifestyle, housing affordability, COL, WLB, healthier food options, proximity to any kind of stores and services, safer neighborhood, mostly families around, no homeless on streets, so many all season indoor and outdoor activities, so many options on medical/ vision/ dental, downtown with just the right size of people and the music I like, and many more things. I am still in dilemma to stay in Seattle at 210K TC building AWS services. Or if I should go back to Cerner in Kansas at 70K TC and live a more easy and cozy life. Sometimes I wish Cerner could offer around 110K, then I don't have to think of moving out of Kansas City Area. Or if there can be more visa sponsoring big tech-employers in the Kansas City Area which can pay relatively higher.

Save up enough to pay off house in KC, then move back. Then learn to do rentals as KC is an amazing rental market.
Try Pittsburgh maybe? There's at least tech there

My cousin and her husband moved back to Overland Park. They had enough of California after a year here for the lifestyle benefits you mentioned

Overland Park is so lovely. My friend also had to leave Cerner because of pay. Honestly...if you can swing it and it’s what your heart wants, I say go for OP. I could be biased because I’m only 40 minutes away, though. You might look into BCBSKC for higher pay.
You mentioned a lot of stuff but surprisingly not the Seattle weather. Seattle weather doesn’t bother you?
If your not motivated by solving problems on the cutting edge of tech and being in the silicon valley/ Seattle ecosystem there's little benefit to not living in Kansas.
