I think Cruise is hiring a lot of engineers right now.

I heard them advertise that they are hiring on software engineering daily. I dont think Ive heard anyone advertise on software engineering daily just to hire more engineers.

Anyway I applied online a few hours ago and got a response in like 2 hours.

Might be a good idea for job seekers to apply to them.

I completely agree with WJBA12. Thank you for being a voice of balanced reason. Obvs no company is completely perfect and it really depends on your team, but in general I think the consensus across many different teams is that Cruise’s culture is honestly pretty shitty right now and needs significant improvement.

yes, we are hiring and firing a lot.
We need to hire more to maintain a stable work force.

    • The way it should be... The whole PIP song and dance that happens at my company is ridiculous.

We still have PIP, of course. Just maybe the process is faster? Not sure what it’s like at Amazon.

PIPs are 30 days and basically serve as the company giving you "two weeks notice". HR still has to create a paper trail but nobody has ever survived a PIP. It keeps the company performing at the highest level possible, but it's not for the faint of heart.

yeah I like it to be quick and clean. Other companies normally have 3 month PIPs which are too long and painful process

Oof so is the work culture brutal? I used to work at very crazy paced company to the point that I was working weekends and late into the night. Whole team did it so I went along. Got burned out. I don't mind grinding, but working on vacation isn't fun. 😭

Way to take a low blow dude. You stay longer at Cruise you would become incoherent too.

To be fair it is pretty incoherent. Also most of the stuff described here happened early 2018, not convinced this person is even still at Cruise.

wtf is private RSU? havent they been acquired already
      Oct 3
    • private RSU is you get share and Softbank get 7% dividend on you share. and Dan Kan co-founder already vest $30m GM stocks but he get paid same private RSU but do nothing except play iphone game and ride hoverboard or scooter or whatever teenager does now

GM acquired us, and were at one point the sole investor. SoftBank (and others) invested later. We are now a private company with multiple investors.

      Comp is structured as such:

Base + Signing + Cruise RSUs + Annual

      - Annual bonus is performance based, depends entirely on your annual review.
      - We recently started an RSU refresher program with no vesting cliff (you start vesting immediately)
      - Bonus multiplier ranges from 0-1.5, again, depending on your annual performance review

All in all TC is fairly decent, although keep in mind that the stock is paper money

They couldn’t handle 320-350 as a TC for a senior engineer. Lame.

      What’s the accurate range then?
      Oct 3
    • Cruise Automation nicolase
      I make 335
      Oct 3
    • false, got 349 as senior eng, (up from 332 after negotiation). although I've heard the senior range is pretty wide at Cruise, so depends on lots of other factors probably.

      I know several that got offers > 330 🤷‍♀️

Or, to flip it around— what would make them want to hire engineers so quickly? Might it be a symptom of high turnover rate? Just something to think about.

Turnover rate right now is concerning.

Nonsense. Fresh grad offers are higher than that, unless you were applying for QA role or something
