I was asked 2 LC hard in Amazon onsite last week, I thought Amazon hiring bar was relatively lower.

I interviewed at Amazon Music last week and was asked 2 leetcode hard during onsite. 1. Merge K sorted lists 2. Word Ladder II Also, this happened after 20 mins of behavioral questions on LP, so you're supposed to solve LC hard within 30 mins, 10 mins, in the end, to ask the questions to the interviewer. The interviewer is probably studying for interviews himself and used recent questions he’d practiced, feeling cute!

Happens at Amazon and msft. Most of the interviewers are leetcoding themselves. They even know if you have seen the question .

Lol. So sorry for you. However, I feel these 2 are like LRU cache, considered hard but are kinda medium if you have already solved then it can be done in 30 mins.

Microsoft DinTaiFung Jun 30, 2019

I agree with this. OP has 2 options: 1) complain and feel sorry for themselves 2) learn merge sort

Merge K sorted lists is not hard man 😂

Which solution would you use on an interview? I used a heap and got 28% better so it must be a bruteforceish / not.optimal?

Amazon rotate Jul 1, 2019

Rule at Amazon is that we will only make offers to people unless they are better than half the people in the role they are interviewing for. We do take it seriously and by definition it means all new hires must raise the bar. Comments about the hiring bar are peanut gallery bullshit.

Apple lmfaoapple Jul 1, 2019

Lol so glad I don’t work for Amazon

IBM LeavingIBM Jul 1, 2019

does that mean solving with an optimal solution every problem you get during the interview or are they more interested in seeing my thought process?

Seems like you interviewed for SDE2+. Amazon hiring bar is lower for entry level SDE positions.

I got asked "Merge K Sorted list" and "Max profit when you buy and sell stock" on my Facebook Phone screen! Ofcourse, I failed it 😂 - I solved both but I missed edge cases

At least those are commonly known problems
