This weekend I watched Booksmart. It’s an absolutely amazing movie. But it got me thinking, as someone who was focused throughout high school I never got the “rewards” the main characters got. I never got into an elite school. I also focused on school in college. Did 4 internships and saved a bunch of money and did research and got into a FANG with multiple backup offers (albeit Amazon). But even at the age of 23 I feel like I haven’t “lived” as much as the elites in the movies. I’ve never been in love or gotten external validation for my accomplishments or been to a party like the ones in movies. All that, and I’m still considered mediocre compared to people like them (that do exist!) at local schools like Harvard and MIT and Yale and the rest of the HYPSM+Ivies How can I make up for lost time? I feel like I’ve wasted my life.
Jeez man!!! It’s a friekin movie. Its super romanticized. Relax, and enjoy your life the way you like it, not how Hollywood wants you to enjoy it.
It is but i liked the movie because it reminded me of a lot of people I know. It is romanticized but there’s a big kernel of truth to it that I can’t stop thinking about.
What’s the truth? I’m going to quote someone and that’ll pretty much sum of life for you, “Relax, none of us are getting out of here alive “. That’s essentially life!
First of all, you're only 23 relax. If you want to party, go party in Europe or Mexico or a beach in SE Asia. Or be a beach bum somewhere for a few weeks. Go to a yoga retreat in Bali. Money buys you freedom and opportunity to do things. Take your PTO. And spend some of your TC. You need to plan for the future, but you can't take it with you bud. Save for a vacation and go enjoy it. Then realize that you need to balance work and play in your daily life Signed, Someone older
Nice humble-bragging, bro.
How is this humble bragging? The sorts of people that make me feel this way don’t find any of this impressive at all. Do you find it impressive?
> Did 4 internships and saved a bunch of money and did research and got into a FANG with multiple backup offers (albeit Amazon). If that's not humble-bragging I don't know what is.
I havent seen the movie, but here's my reco: when I was in my late 20s, I went to an international business school for an MBA. Best time of my life, lots of fun, learning, making friends, seeing the world and broadening your mind. Defo would recommend.
Your life is the consequence of your choices, Amazon is one of them.
What’s that supposed to mean?
Nobody gaf about an elite school after your first couple jobs.
Why the fuck should it matter whether you went to an elite school or not? Stop comparing yourself to imaginary people from blind or movies ffs. Set your own goals and work towards them, rather than trying to live somebody else's life. We all die alone, the only thing that matters is how much you enjoyed your time here.
