Interviewed for IBM Research last Friday. The people I talked to seem very smart. What kind of projects are going on there, related to AI/machine learning?
What’s the position title?
Research staff member
Wondering if you can provide referral for IBM. Berkeley new grad with previous experience at NASA and Quicken Loans. Thanks. My email is chen.john.business@gmail.com
Run from IBM.
Why is that?
What sort of projects depends on the location. Different research locations do vastly different work. From the research people I know, if you’d asked them at your interview, they’d have told you honestly. As others have said, research does tend to be full of good people and avoids a lot of the layoffs and other bullshit

IBM Research is an incredible power house of intellectual capital. Seriously. Yes, the brand overall isn’t as good as google, and yes, there are a bunch of dumb old “solution architect” fucks working there, but IBM Research does not fuck around. Funding, connections, publications, patents, this is a researcher’s wet dream.
Shouldn't, you know, you look this up before interviewing there? And then ask your interviewer?
What interviewers say and the actual work done can differ, especially in research settings.
