I’m on H1B and tired of the Visa situation in the US. I was due for a visa extension and have now received a RFE. I am thinking of moving to Canada and was exploring the IELTS exam. How easy/tough is IELTS and how many days/ months would I need to prepare. Also can someone point out few IELTS materials if possible? T.C 200k
It’s easy. Doesn’t take too long to prepare. Practice the Listening section because it matters more for PR and is a bit weird. Search online for ieltsliz
If you have already given it, how long did you prepare?
I took it twice. First time, I prepared for a day or two maybe and got a good score overall, but 7.5 in Listening screwed me. I’m a bit ADD and zoned out for a few crucial seconds. Due to the weird non-linearities in the CRS scoring system, I had to take IELTS again to get that extra 0.5 in Listening, while staying >7 in the others. This time I prepared for a week or so and I got a near perfect score
You need to score 8 Listening and 7 in others to get a Score good enough to get a Canada PR. So practice till you consistently score atleast at that level
What was the rfe for? How long ago?
I did IELTS years ago to go to study in a Canadian college. If you’ve been working in North America for a while, you should have no issue getting a good enough score. My advice is to get a couple hours with a tutor who could give you sample exams and tips and tricks. As with every test, knowing the subject isn’t enough to ace the exam.
Study Cambridge IELTS and you will do great. My English isn't great but I scored well with that.
I did the IELTS without preparation. Its super easy.Good luck!
It is easy,I practiced fora week
Thanks for the replies guys!!
If you speak and write English as you have it should be pretty easy
