    Do a Roth IRA instead. If you are over the Roth income limit, you can do a backdoor Roth.

      That’s the mega-backdoor Roth. For the regular backdoor Roth your 401k doesn’t matter.

      Tinder is saying that if you're above the income limit for Roth IRA "front door" contributions, you should probably max out deductible contributions to a traditional 401k before going for more Roth space. I agree.

    You can still contribute to an IRA for 2018 until April (tax day) for both you and a spouse (even if they don't work).
