I’m leaving US. Can I invest all the US$ into Wealthfront and just leave it there?

I decided to leave US but I don’t want to bring the dollars I earned out of the country. I want to put them into investment and just leave it there. Has anybody done this before? If so, do I need to do tax return in future? (I’m neither US citizen nor PR) Thanks in advance!

You will need to pay federal taxes (not state because you're not a resident of any state) and you will probably also need to pay some (or all) taxes in the country of residence, depending on which country it is.

Microsoft MakeMsftGA Jun 19, 2018

Uh most (all?) US states still consider you a resident of them unless you move to another US state. Moving to another country doesn’t count.

Yes but you’ll have to file US taxes every year on your US-source income.

SAP Wudangdang OP Jun 18, 2018

Have you done this before? I thought I only need to file tax in the country I hold citizenship?

Apple Marijuana Jun 18, 2018

The second part is not true. As for the first part: No I haven’t done this before. But it’s not uncommon.

How'd you decide on wealthfront over betterment

Oracle Pqlakdndke Jun 18, 2018

Same question.

Oracle Pqlakdndke Jun 18, 2018

How is wealthfront? People say index funds are always better than actively managed funds. What’s your experience

Apple Marijuana Jun 18, 2018

Wealthfront mostly invests in index funds, it’s not “active”.

Oracle Pqlakdndke Jun 19, 2018

Why can’t we do it ourselves?!
