I'm sick of tech dudes

Seems like money, tech and complaining about how they "can't talk to girls because of #metoo" are the only things they're capable of talking about. Blind brings out the worst of the worst but it's not much better irl. Really getting sick of the whole industry.

Just a rant. Obviously not all dudes.

Lol @ all the people telling her not to date tech dudes. She didn’t even mention dating, but you just assume because she’s a girl that’s what she’s talking about. Stay classy Blind

2 days ago I posted something similar and I was bombarded with sexist messages, hate messages, and inappropriate sexual comments, so I had to take down the post. I tried to talk to a few people genuinely but it was a mistake. I am tired of the tech guys too, they are weird, super weird.

They insulted me calling me (and every non tech person) low IQ and how women are good for nothing, how their TC entitles them to sex, how they can hop women, and how they are the best in the world.

It's exhausting to talk to them, make them realize money doesn't make them a better person, that there is life outside jobs, and that people are not disposable. I don't think anyone understood though. It makes my heart cry to see what money can do to people :(

    • Terrible to hear that.

Women in my family were sexually harassed by male high-income earners, people you’d think should otherwise be classy. This happened about 30 years ago.

It sucks that so little has changed, but at least on Blind you know the reality of how people think. At work, people are two-faced and only use women to achieve some D&I goal or something.

Agree @Uber. It's surprising how men think women are good for nothing, when what they should be doing is appreciating them for enduring and fighting through this sexist world (as can be seen on blind repeatedly). I really don't care if anyone supports me or not, but I hate to see how people hinder my journey time and again.

It's sad to see how winning more people in bed has become synonymous of a stud person. It's also sad to see people weighing other people on their job/money etc while believing more money makes them a better and high IQ person. On the contrary, the best people I have known worked blue collar jobs, the strongest people I know carved their own path (and not just happen to be in some kind of a tech job during a tech boom), and the most kind/ethical people I know made their way through poverty/other difficult times. I just hope the current culture changes.

  • You’re not wrong, I’m a tech dude and am sick of tech dudes.

Lack of humanity honestly. It’s like we never ventured far outside of our bubbles, don’t know how to connect with ordinary people, and just act like working at X or whatever entitles us to Y.

Can’t wait for the bubble to burst! My TC might take a hit but well worth bringing back the Bay Area to what it was before.

I think the roles are decided within the confines of the particular relationship and that they are a private matter, so all the judgy stuff here (that actually has nothing to do with my original comment) rally makes me nauseous, even though I share your views. It’s not up for others to judge. I personally do not like traditional gender roles and I am looking for a woman who will be my equal partner. I want my relationship to be a two way street and I don’t want my partner to assume that I would do or not do something because I am a man and I in return won’t ever assume that she would do or not do something because she is a woman.

P.S. I also think men paying for women more than just occasionally is benevolent sexism and that’s how it all starts. I partially blame the social conventions of dating and I wish they would change.

Lol on the private matter. Even domestic violence or marital rape is private, but that doesn't make it right. Remember the days when people would brush off these issues as private matter and that only they should be the ones sorting it out?

Agree on your comment about keeping roles and responsibilities fluid and not dependent on gender. I am not against or in favor of LARGELY traditional gender roles (woman taking care of the household and man bringing in money) if that's the CHOICE they make and are respectful of those choices. However, I am against a COMPLETE segregation because that would mean the woman would have no idea how to handle finances and the man would have no idea how to iron his clothes.

Also, don't agree that it starts with man paying for the woman lol. A man can pay for a woman's drink and a woman can chose to pick him up if that's convenient. Is this a lopsided relationship? No. It all depends on how much you are contributing and there are ways to contribute, outside of money.

    • Amazon mmmehhhh
Yup and the private matter if done in scale affects society as a whole. Women are expected to still do the household work which in turn affects her work and her career at large. SHE wouldn’t be in this position if societal forces didn’t accept that’s its her job to do the laundry. Funny how bloomberg didn’t see it as judgmental that women are expected to do all the housework but critiquing it somehow is. That’s bullshit.

Yes, not viewing traditional gender roles as a problem but considering a woman not pay on a date as a problem is hypocrisy.

Lol that guy at Netflix are the kind of people who think that their code is changing the world where the reality is the world wouldn't even notice if they were gone or their code was gone! Techies are so full of themselves, part of the blame goes to the general public as well who always put software engineers on a pedestal because of the huge salaries.

    Oct 6 1
    • Assholes who harass women (when it’s proven, and it was in this case) should be named and shamed, not given $80M severance bonuses.

Sadly most tech companies have covered up sexual harassment. Matt H (guy who harassed Susan Fowler) works at Okta. Fucker should be banned from the industry.

So all women get punished for some men being sexual abusers?? The backlash from men against metoo is astounding. Is it really that difficult to not sexually assault women?
      Oct 9
    • Symantec NGge16
That's not what xoogler420 was saying.

I think it's a stretch to say women are being punished when men are scared to date them *at work*. Is it punishing men if women chose not to get a ride with a male Uber driver?

While some of the backlash is from douchebag men who can't cope with having to behave themselves, there is also some reasonable fear.

Even if it's rare, it is true that even a completely meritless claim of sexual harassment can be extremely damaging. As a society, we have a lot of work to do to ensure that the process to deal with claims of sexual harassment treat both accusors and those accused with respect and dignity. Being accused is not the same as being guilty.

It's not surprising because "give a man anonymity and he will show his true self".

I recently started noticing that I was so consumed by Blind and Blinders that I started to think that life is just a TC chasing exercise and people are really this mean. But it's really not that way! There is so much more to life outside of work. The thing is good/normal people don't choose to post on Blind as much as the other TC-chasing rat-race loving nincompoops do.

The world is struggling not because of bad people but because good people don't speak!

Not all guys are like this but let's face it, many of the younger guys today in tech have the personality of a rock. They're totally wrapped up with work and campuses are structured so you almost never have to leave. They have no social skills, no hobbies, no interest in the arts, etc. What hell are you supposed to talk to a woman about if your face is usually buried in a computer screen or phone during all your waking hours. So many people have simply lost the art of conversation these days and having fantastic TC won't help you there, unless maybe you're hiring escorts to keep you company....

  • So sad that things have gotten this way. I'm a woman and I've been in this field since 1999. I'm an admin at a school. Actually I'm the only admin there. My help is students who are interested in the tech field. I am training them to be happy. To joke with 'customers'. Talk in terms they understand. Treat EVERYONE NICE! As a woman, I wouldn't tolerate a guy Tech's sh!t. Never have, never will. Never tattled. Always handled it myself. Just as I'm teaching my future 'girl' Tech's.
