My position is account executive, making $80,000 a year + commission in bay area. The company provides a car that I can use for private as well, so it makes the base worth up to $90,000 (it's a nice car and they pay for gas, insurance, registration, etc.) The problem is how long it takes to close the deal. It requires very long evaluation that could take a year or two. I've been with the company for 5 years now but haven't sold shit, meaning I've got no commission. My colleague who has longer career in sales is complaining the same thing like "this is the first time I haven't been able to sell anything." The reason why I'm not fired is because I have the best product knowledge within the sales team and often contribute to solve problems by suggesting appropriate product although I don't have any engineering degree but just BA in business administration. I don't see further career path in this role especially within my current company, but I don't have any intention to switch a company for another account management or sales role since they normally offer lower base. What I'm interested in is marketing or branding position. What's the salary is like in bay area for entry or associate level position? Anyone had same kind of experience? Any tips are appreciated. Thanks.
Does anyone in your company sell anything? You must be selling nuclear power plants or something.. I would start searching and get out into something faster
We sell raw materials. it's more difficult to sell here in bay area to large corporations since they have long list of tests. Most of projects are truned down because projects themselves get canceled. So yes, I want more fast moving environment in the next one.
Why not business development? Its not sales, its more strategic partnerships. How much total experience do you got? Moving to marketing from sales might be a bit tough but moving to BD or Partnerships might make sense.
Yes! I'm also looking into Business Development too. Thanks for reply!
