In the process of leaving! wanted to tell my manager that I would volunteer for being laid off (if there was one) . Can someone tell me what would be disadvantages of doing the same? I am a top performer in my team. (Got all advanced in my reviews) Would it show up negatively in my background check? Edit: I would obviously want to get that severance package (if there was one)
Is there a severance package? Am curious. I thought what we had was the best
They might consider it quitting. Unless you know of upcoming lay-off on your team there is still a risk they don’t include you in the list. However in the meantime they think you are out the door and life starts to get more sucky. I don’t think going to your boss asking for money to quit is a good idea unless you are 100% sure RIF is already coming.
Before resigning , talk to manager that if you can be laid off or if there is a plan. If they no , then resign
If your timeline of leaving is extremely flexible it might work, otherwise company speed won’t align with your timing and this will be irrelevant and they’ll count the lost headcount anyway
It will not adversely effect you. You will get severance and unemployment. Plus employers understand the nature of a layoff. I went through two and never had a problem.
