Impossibly dumb Google design

This is something I discovered today, and I couldn't believe it!
If you sign in to Chrome browser, it automatically logs you in to your Google account. Later, if you go to some gmail.com and sign out, it signs you out of Chrome!!! Why the fuck should it do things to my browser? I was merely checking my email and signing in/signing out.

Even worse, when you go to gmail.com and sign in to an account, then it signs you into Chrome! Loathsome!!!!!! Why deceptively sign me into chrome when I only wanted to check my email?

I know Google has great engineering talent but apparently they have a bunch of donkey brains when it comes to UX and UI. Dumbass motherfuckers.

It’s not ideal. We appreciate using G services but please don’t assume we want to remain signed into our accounts for all apps, all the time. If you want to sign us in by default, make it evident and allow us to easily sign out.

That’s the spirit. Go ahead and build it. When you need funding from VC, they will ask you to build this exact feature.

Are you a paying for this service? If not, I would just shut up and use it as it is.

We may not be paying for the service but we are the product. If Google is going to sell my info for money, I would expect it to deliver a good quality product in exchange

Thats because they want your life to become hell if you sign out. Chrome is a data collection tool disguised as a browser. If you sign out of it then Google cannot link your browsing history to your profile.

You can see all your browsing history through chrome synced to your Google history at https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity

Right, but if they sign me out of chrome when i merely sign out of Gmail they are losing money aren't they?

Correction: add "as easily" to the end. They definitely are more than capable of shadow tracking you based on IP, cookies and site trackers.

@op- It frustrated you that signout experience is synced. It doesn’t matter to Google. You are the subject here. You have 3 choices:
      1. Continue signing in to Gmail when you want to read your email then Sign Out to not share browsing activity.
      2. You may get tired of signing in and out every time and decide to just keep yourself signed in.
      3. You either switch to different browser for gmail or completely, or you quit gmail.

It is a classic bait and switch. They’ve baited all of us with their tools and services. Now try running away from them without losing patience and sanity on its competitor tools and services.

Try any of the other browsers and use Chrome only for websites which break without Chrome - without logging in to Google.
      Nov 11, 2018
  • I take advantage of this behavior. I have my chrome signed on my main google account. When I want to check the emails on another account, which happens not often I just open a private navigation tab. So I never have to sign-in / sign-off to access my main mail account and chrome is always configured as I would like it to be

Everyone had a problem with this when Microsoft did this in the 90s. Just like for software patents, a slight tweak in semantics and ignore the precedent.

OP, you're not crazy. While I believe chrome allows you to disable auto-login, your best option is to move to another browser.
