I currently have 2.5 years of experience at Oracle(HQ) and I’m joining Georgia Tech to start my masters next fall. The main reason is to learn ML and get into ML roles. (I also want experience campus life again and evaluate my life goals, get perspective). What should I do in campus to optimize my learning and better the chances of cracking ML jobs at good companies? I am thinking of having relevant coursework and thesis. But almost everyone has relevant coursework. What else to do? Ps: Any tips about optimizing campus experience in general is also welcome :) Tc: 120k, Yoe: 2.5, Role: SMTS
Feel like if you are committing, might as well shoot for PhD. Isnt the difference between PhD and MS huge for ML roles?
Not sure if I have the potential to do a PhD. That’s something I want to evaluate while doing Masters.
Yes, masters is much closer to ba level vs a phd
Implement papers and put it on Github. You can also implement games using reinforcement learning. That’s the hot area right now. This way you can definitely get ML engineer positions.
Read the ai blog and publications from Google. Use the tools they develop and contribute to them. That’ll keep you updated and gets your name out there
Sounds good, thanks :)
