I'm a sde trying to stay on top of a few parallel projects, often together with a small team of people. so far I've been using a personal handwritten diary to keep track of things, but it's quickly becoming inadequate. What tools do people use?
What a coincidence. I started looking for the same thing today. It's insane the different amount of things I have to do and I'm not very effective at task switching.
Yeah, same. I use the bullet journal system in my diary and it works reasonably well. Sometimes however you need to be verbose (reports, long notes) and i long hand writing is not the best choice

Trello
Trello phone app is great
A colleague of mine is pretty good with switching tasks/context. She maintains 1 notebook for detailed notes on a task and a sticky note on her laptop with bulleted tasks for the day. She says her aim is to see all items on the sticky note checked off.
OneNote, but as little more than a text editor. Lots of copy-paste. I use Trello on my phone for personal stuff, but I hate typing on the phone (like now). Trello's web app is also worth looking at.
What types of projects? Are you trying to track mostly tasks between resources or a full picture of projects (budget, resource allocation, etc.)?
OP mentioned he or she is using bullet points. I suggest Workflowy then. I use it extensivly for personal notes. You can also create Kanban boards add details to a bullet point. and yet it is very simple and easy to work with. You can also share bullets if you want other people to contribute. If you primarily want to manage projects with other people then Trello is a good tool. If you are managing multiple projects that you need both waterfall planning and Kanban boards at the same time, the SmartSheet is a good tool.

I like Things but I also return to written notebook often as easiest to work with
