I have a fractured leg wherein the bone is healing slightly incorrectly. The orthopedic I've been seeing recommends surgery with plates and screws added to hold the bone together. I'm wondering if getting a second opinion from a different orthopedic would be covered by my insurance. I'm currently on Amazon's Premera Blue Cross plan in Seattle. I'll of course be following up with my insurance to check if this would be covered, but I'm just posting here to check if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Why wouldn't you just call your insurance first?
I did just call them and they said it is covered, but I've had a bad experience with an insurance provider in the past where they cited a technicality to avoid covering a procedure that was meant to be covered. I'm just posting here to check if other people here have done something similar.
Then get it in writing from your insurance, and demand that the service provider bill you in such a way that it will fit into the codes that your insurance has pre-authorized.
