Any thoughts about how risky/wise is it to move from Intel’s Gpu divison to a similar org in AMD
AMD is doing well..and i am assuming intel is also not doing bad..risk/benefits will depend on your motivation for switch
No full bonus ever. Much less resources which translates to more workload. Not very competitive pay in long term. Raises are not great and after three years you are behind the new hires. Unless Intel is underpaying you, I don’t recommend AMD. The right time to join was 3 years ago, now there is no much room for growth.
But isn’t “being behind the new hires” the case in every company ?
Amd pros ————- 1. Better design, architecture 2. Already established in duopoly of discrete gpu. 3. Many customers in pipeline. 4. Visionary ceo Intel pros ————- 1. Better design and verification methodology(are secondary to design). 2. A lot more room to improve design and architecture. 3. Good work culture. Challenges with both amd and intel 1. Legacy design 15-20 yrs old code 2. Secretive/tribal work culture 3. Poor documentation The market factors can change with time. Think about the manager and team mates you are going to work with. They are more important than anything else imho. I have not listed cons but you must know that too.
