Currently finishing up my undergraduate coursework for finance degree. Looking for any advice on landing an internship in accounting/finance positions.
If you get good grades put them in
To be honest, if you're looking for public accounting, you're a little late for an internship if you're wrapping up coursework. Typically interns apply during junior year -- I would highly recommend just applying directly for associate roles this fall (apply early, typically the biggest hiring rounds happen around October). Accounting resumes are typically very plain, focus on relevant experience and education, with a good showing of extracurriculars. Finance will probably be more competitive and technically demanding. Actually -- speaking of technical skills, if you have interest in data or python programming, explore that further and mention it in your interviews. PwC will eat that up. If you have a gpa over 3.5 you'll be able to get big 4 interviews, so impress them there and you're golden.
Good point. Same for deloitte.
I thought your degree is in cartooning lol
Go ahead and apply to internships. What advice are you looking for? If you want a life, stay away from the big 4. If you don't care, and would like to travel go work for them. Look for Fortune 200s to work for if you want money and less work.
Any resume advice? I have no experience in finance or accounting apart from schooling and don’t really know what companies look for in a resume.
Did you belong to clubs? Did you join the accounting or finance fraternities? Did you participate in any competitions like the FED challenge? These are things companies are looking for in your resume. They want to know what electives in finance and accounting you took as well.
