Interview process with Facebook terminated after sending immigration docs

I was halfway through the process of interviewing with Facebook. Super positive feedback at each step with the next step scheduled. They asked me for more immigration documents, I provided, and suddenly they terminate the process. I know they would of had to sponsor a new H1b for me. I asked the recruiter if my visa needs was the reason and she said, yes, it is because of the visa but she can’t say more. Anyone else experienced this?

I’m on an E2, currently working legally in the US with two years left on the visa. Unlike the H1B however an E2 visa can’t be transferred between companies

I know this but I was responding to both you and Uber’s comments about hinting.

      Search for the word “hint”.

Nothing about asking to relocate to a non US office is a violation of any US immigration law.

fb sponsors h1b without issues for most. Anything specific about your situation? Is your opt going to expire soon?

You must be seeing H1b transfers and not new h1bs which are subject to lottery.

I don't know how Facebook works, but I asked a recruiter at my company whether they sponsor cap-subject (i.e., lottery required) H-1B visas for new employees. The recruiter told me yes, but only for a limited set of candidates. So they have to rank such candidates against each other to decide which ones get H-1B sponsorship.

Note that such difficulties usually don't apply to H-1B transfer cases (no lottery) or to current employees desiring to change status to H-1B (those employees can keep working in their current status if they don't win the lottery).

Unfortunately you are in the "new employee, cap-subject" bucket since your current status is E-2. Therefore it could be that Facebook has a similar ranking policy and you didn't make the cut. But it was necessary for them to interview you in order to decide.

Waiting for 1 year for you with a 38% chance of success, is a lot to ask for them. No company will be willing to take this bet.

That’s true. I was a little surprised that option was never floated, rather than just my suddenly ending the process when it seemed to be going so well. I may reach out with that suggestion. Thanks!
