Hello, I was networking with a couple of people on LinkedIn and received a Google referral much sooner than I expected (people have always told they would refer me, but I never received one in the past.). I have a months time to accept the referral before it expires. Could anyone please tell if it's a good idea to 1) use the referral, apply for the positions and then ask the recruiter to schedule the interviews after 2-2.5 months - because I haven't prepared that much yet, and I don't want to waste yet another opportunity with Google for 1 yr. 2) let the referral expire, and prepare, and then apply again. But not sure if it would be good on my part to let it expire, because I feel bad as the person was genuinely interested in helping me. (Do you think it's a good idea to basically ask the person again to refer me after 2 months?) 3) open to other views as well. 1.5 yoe Thank you.
If you wait until the end that's a month. I dont know how long application, setting up interviews etc will take, but I'd have to guess a couple of weeks. You can hold them off there too citing scheduling, I imagine. You could probably get close to 2 months before you had to actually interview. On the other hand, if it were me that referred you , I'd want you to be as prepared as you felt you needed to be so I would have no problem re-referring you in a couple of months if you explained the situation.
Jesus. I prepared over an Easter vacation. Do people really spend 2-3 months?
Yep. My degree didn’t require data structures or algorithms in college, so I’ve been prepping for 3 months for roughly 15-20 hours every week.
I am not able to devote much time to prep with the new team transition now. I am an average guy so I have to practice more problems. So, it will take 2 months.
Option 1 is fine jeez
I am of the opinion that you need more than 2 months to prepare for Faang interviews. Googgoog: use the referral code within 30 days, then apply for positions within 30 days. Then set up your interview within 30days. You get ~3months. Do not believe that you will magically get the call on referral.
I have been rejected in the onsite interview last time, so I am kind of hesitant, and I want to get it done properly this time. The last time I made the mistake of being a little overconfident. I am in a new team now, so not getting enough time to prepare. Am able to spend approx 10-15hrs per week.
Can you use referral code for multiple positions?
Yup, I can apply for up to 3 positions.
How many times can someone refer you?

Use opportunity, prepare faster. If you are good, you don’t need 2.5 month to prep
