I'm a long time user of Blind and a big fan of this community. Haven't seen much interest here about crypto or blockchain. Hoping to shed some light into this space.

Will try my best to return and answer every question to the extent of my knowledge. Please keep this thread relevant.

What is the point of being a syndicate? Can you get better OTC prices? Presale min purchase limitations? Otherwise seems like you guys are adding trust risks for little benefit.

Some ICOs require accredited investor. Large pool of money can afford higher gas price to increase chance of getting into ICO
      Sep 18, 2017
  • Microsoft orHb18
Everyone in here not doing their own homework and relying on anons to guide them is begging to get rekt. Hard!

    Traders = rekt
    Greedy = rekt
    Weak hands = rekt
    Lazy folks = rekt
Letting exchanges hold your keys = rekt

ETH is built on quicksand. If you're smart you'll stay away. The rest of the ICOs are even worse off.

This is a Darwinian test. HODL bitcoin (all forks in equal proportions), or get rekt. Think for yourself and do your homework if you want to understand why.

So you do agree that it is ok to hodl. But you are bullish only on btc. (and its forks)?
      Sep 19, 2017
    • Microsoft orHb18
Yes. But understand that there will be MASS confusion as bitcoin continues to fork. Mass media, investment funds, traders, and gurus will all panic as they hop from chain to chain getting rekt.

This is because developers will soon realize it makes more sense to fork off of Bitcoin (different code, different miners, same transaction history) than to start a brand new alt-coin out of thin air.

Why? Bitcoin has already seized the network effect.

Instead of speculating on which chain will win out, hodl and let the engineers and miners battle it out. If you pick the wrong chain you will be ruined.

If you own btc and bch today, and never move the coin around you will by default own all future forks of bitcoin. You will win no matter what happens on the battlefield.

Don't get caught in the trap of trying to predict the future. Even if 99 of 100 versions of bitcoin fail, the winner will change the course of history. Personally, I believe it is more likely that a few forks of bitcoin will survive in perpetuity.

Check out Daniel Krawisz "How to Face Bitcoin Forks"

I'd also like to add 2 more points.

      1. Buying bitcoin with fiat isn't your ONLY option. You can also EARN bitcoin. Those earning bitcoin today will be the biggest winners tomorrow.

      2. If you're still measuring your gains in fiat (USD/ EUR/ GBP) you still don't get it, yet. Keep doing your homework and when it clicks it'll be clear as day.

To BMW, crypto makes at least as much sense as any other investment that has no intrinsic value (ie just about everything except real estate). And more and more people are realizing that. The total crypto market cap is still tiny, though, so it's still early in this ride.

I play mostly in the Ethereum ecosystem. So my bet is that Qtum, Omisego will rally soon. For new projects, Airswap, Ambrosus, SimpleToken, Red Pulse, ICON, StormToken. Storm, you can still get into. Might be a pump and dump though.

Be wary of what you put your money into in regards to the crypto world. Any Joe Shmoe that can produce a website and white page can raise money for a "coin" that doesn't even exist and disappear off into the sunset with millions.

With that being said, I am heavily invested into Sia Coin, which is decentralized storage. It was created by a former IBM developer, they have a current working product, and the developers actually care about the success of Sia rather than making a quick buck.

I think Sia has a nice idea, but the product clearly has a ways to go before being user friendly. It's much more geared toward developers at this point. The market is centralizing on top tier teams etc. There are syndicates and groups who are well known and respected in the Crypto community and Silicon Valley coming together to try and get ahead of the SEC regulations. ICO's are a powerful tool, and yes it's gone a bit out of hand. I suspect in 6 months there will be a clear process put in place.

Bitcoins are sophisticated, high tech and very advance Ponzi schemes. There is nothing “long term” about it, just that scam may live longer than a year or 5 years or decades. No body knows, but it will take a last breath for sure! Good luck

It can not be currency, it lacks the attribute called “fair value”, without it, it can be hottest commodity for transient time, it can be cult, it can never be part of day to day barter system or mean of exchange. NEVER. Now don’t says drug peddlers, illegal weapon traders as examples of exchange. About banking model and all cry, fine, do that. Do one more thing, stop paying taxes for couple of years, tell people I don’t trust banks and pay me in bitcoins only.

bitcoin represents a new economic layer enabling forms of transaction and exchange that you clearly haven’t been exposed to yet.

the real question here is how long it’ll take you to figure it out. you still have time. most are still a bit confused.

    Two questions:

    1. What is your percentage of investment in "safe" coins for holds (BTC, ETH, LTC) compared to altcoins and ICOs?

I bought into ETH right before the spike above $90, LTC at $29, and BTC at $2000. Lost out on most of my Bitcoin and Litecoin in ICOs because I had no idea what I was doing. Wisened up a little, got lucky a few times and I'm now at 2x my original investment through ETH and ETH buys.

    2. My total portfolio is about $12k but I'm looking to hit a 5x return on that within the year. What target percentages should I be looking at for my portfolio?

70% in Ethereum, but 90% of them are locked up in ICO's so we'll see how they perform. I'm moving away from active trading and more into early stage ICO's to see if that plays out better. to 5x? You need to get into some of the hottest ICO projects. Like Kyber. Enigma.

If an ICO is 'to good to be true' stay away. Investing in a whitepaper mostly. Investigate the idea, team, etc.

    • Enjoy / Ops gollypops
@Miku I learned that you need to read the white paper. One of the first ICOs I invested in was ZrCoin. I had no idea what the hell I was doing. Put all of my Litecoin at the time into it thinking I would wait for the buyback. I got a 50% ZRC bonus. Yay! The company is a shadow organization between some Chinese and Russian autocrats and will likely amount to little more than silver lining for the bank accounts of 10 individuals.

Also, I learned most ICOs have the "early spike then dumped to death" curve. They are risky for short term plays but seem well worth the risk in most cases. Watch this happen to ParagonCoin. Oh, and fuck ParagonCoin with Cheech's bong.
      Sep 18, 2017
    • Enjoy / Ops gollypops
@Block I'm looking at Enigma. Missed the boat on Kyber but I'm bullish on it once people start to dump. It seems inevitable at this point.

My big question with promising ICOs is how to play off the long-term viability. Do you buy early, sell when they are listed, then buy back after the dump? Buy early and hold?
      Sep 18, 2017

      OP
@gollypops I'm in on Enigma as well. Kind of upset that they bumped up the cap. Not the type of guys I want to partner with long term for moves like that. The overall market tends to pump, sell, then rebuy. We like to hold everything long term. Easier that way.

Now, I have that same awe and wonder as I'm learning about blockchain and the potential it has for pretty much every facet of our lives and industry. There's definitely excitement from the financial aspect - sure, we can make copious amounts of money, and that's pretty sweet; the adrenaline of the fluctuation is thrilling. But don't you find the actual concepts of these coins even cooler? Data as the new gold standard, commerce in all new trusted and dynamic ways, liquid conversation between different coins for different, distinct purposes. I don't know, I love this shit.
